Gaming Laptop for $599 out-the-door@ Fry's B&M Core2Duo, 4GB RAM, 512mb Radeon HD4570, Win7.wrls-N, etc... ( notebook )
Features:
~Win7x64
~4GB RAM (yup, DDR2, which is what you want if you want to Overclock it. If it was DDR3 1066 you'd be stuck at 1066Mhz ram speed because of the subsequent 1:1 fsb:dram ratio. Because it's a 1066Mhz fsb CPU, the RAM will be running at 533, just begging to be overclocked. No silly "no DDR3" comments).
~320GB Hard Drive
~512mb ATI Radeon 4570 dedicated graphics card
~HDMI (not that it's really a critical feature, but everyone always seems to whine about systems without it ; )
~Core2Duo P7450 (better than T6600--ignore spd in Ghz, kiddies, it's all about L2 cache here. 3mb in the P7450 vs. 2 in the T6600= the T6600 getting rocked. If some unfortunately ignorant soul posts pass-mark benchmark, and thinks that CPU arithmetic benchmarks equal overall performance, you will be mocked for not knowing any better, but we'll keep the mocking polite. Ignorance is, after all, a pitiable offense).
~Wireless-N
~Webcam
~16" screen, std. 1366x768 res (ok, no idiots posting "why the low/standard res." Here's the answer: it doesn't exist in a laptop w/dedicated graphics card under $750. Why? For gaming you won't need it (a game like Crysis won't run on almost any laptop under $1250 at 1600x900 or 1920x1080 with AA on and most settings at medium). It's nice to say "my laptop has 1080p," but when you're not going to be gaming in it and it pushes the price of your laptop to $800 w/g-card (not to mention it's tough to read everything in 1920x1080 in a 16"--trust me, I have it in my HP HDX16t) ...it's not a real-world requirement in an affordable gaming system.
~Decent audio w/subwoofer. Yup, it's got a sub--a cool feature in a $600 machine, though it's not going to do your batts any favors while it's bumpin'. Err... wait... can a 2" sub actually bump? Aww, who cares, you can tell all your friends that your laptop has a sub and they'll think you're the coolest kid at the Special Olympics. Gold medal time.
Model number is MSI M6275-419US. Everyone started selling this system about 48 hours ago for $699 (meaning MSI recently released 10-20 thousand of these things for US retailers for a retailer cost of around $569)
