Bright House Networks this week launched its Road Runner "Lightning" Internet service in select market areas. The DOCIS 3.0 roll out, currently being offered at 40Mbps downstream, is a response to Verizon FIOS and represents a hopeful step towards better competition in the high-end residential broadband segment, at least where offered.
Quote:
As a stand-alone service, Lightning will cost $77.95 per month, though most customers tend to buy Internet service as a package with television and telephone service. Within a Web/TV/phone package, Lightning will cost $129.95 per month, or about $30 more than the slower Bright House "Standard" Web speed of 10 Mbps.

As for the "deal" aspect of the new service tiers, existing 7Mbps customers will soon receive a free boost to 10Mbps. No customer action is required for the upgrade.
