Curious, what do our members in-between searching for great deals? Anyone have an interesting hobby to share?
I have several interests outside of computers, though I am probably most identified by the Internet for my previous interest in anime and my ongoing interest in cars. My interest in anime has been largely displaced for many years now, mostly well before it reached mainstream status in the United States, so feel free to toss out the modern anime stereotypes when it comes to me.
For whatever reasons, cars have remained a strong interest for me, though my preferences have evolved over the years. Given I am no longer too fond of crawling in and out of small cars, I am apparently in the German old land yacht phase right now, as I currently have an 1991 BMW 750iL and an 1987 Mercedes 560SEL.
Otherwise, in recent months, I have returned to a previous personal hobby from years ago. I occasionally fire up a shortwave receiver, tune through the MW/HF bands, and enjoy some international programming. There is lots of content still floating on the airwaves, ranging from amusing to bizarre to relaxing. I like and even sometimes use tuneable loops due to current space restrictions, but I have been routinely using an outdoor 11-meter vertical backed with a pre-selector/amp, feeding a Sony 7600GR radio. It is a compromised configuration, but I listen mostly to large broadcasters anyway, so it works well for my purposes. I have been evaluating possible spots to setup a better antenna solution, preferably something with horizontal polarization.
