This is likely the "outlet" product, which a Le Creuset outlet store that sold both explained the differences to me (see below). $199 is pretty much the everyday outlet price on this, vs. ~$299 for the full "retail" product.

We bought a 7 or 8qt outlet version dutch oven years ago and absolutely love it. Much more durable than the $50 enamel coated iron Kirkland dutch oven, which we ultimately returned after a couple years because the enamel was chipping off of it. We've had the Le Creuset pot for ~6 years and use it 2-4 times a week and you would hardly know it.

The retail product has different shaping/thickness of the pot handles, and the lid knob is more silver, a different shape and has a slightly higher heat tolerance (I think it is 500f instead of 450f). You can go to lecreuset.com and you'll see the difference on the product pictured right on the front page.

Almost pulled the trigger on this Costco one and really appreciate the heads up. I thought something was off when I saw the heat tolerance was lower than the models listed on the Le Creuset website.

Specific to the knobs only, they can be easily upgraded to the versions that can handle higher (500F) heat.

The knobs are different on different colors at le creuset - some are metal and some are polymer. All the older ones were polymer. This isn't an outlet or cheaper version, it's just that for whatever reason some colors of le creuset aren't metal

CutleryAndMore is currently running a 20% off all Le Creuset sale, too, FWIW:
https://www.cutleryandmore.com/lecreuset.htm [cutleryandmore.com]

Not nearly this cheap, but a wide selection for less than retail price. I decided against getting a 9 qt or 13.25 qt dutch oven for now, but I'm still looking. I bought one of the pans in another sale, and it's very nice. I do think it's higher quality than the Tramontina dutch ovens I have, though those are still great and 1/4 the price of even the one in this sale.

They also sell stainless steel knobs safe for any temp, which I personally prefer and think look nicer, too:

I have a Le Creuset dutch oven that was gifted to me long ago. I like it but I've often wondered if it's really worth that much more than the Tramontina, Lodge, Cuisinart, etc.

FWIW Wirecutter recommends the Lodge as their top pick, and Le Creuset as their upgrade pick noting that it doesn't cook any better.

I like Lodge and rarely spend big bucks for quality, but having my share of different products, two or three Le Creuset pieces (casserole & dutch oven for certain) is worth the money. Even if they cook the same, the Le Creuset cleans up more easily than anything I've ever had, and so far is more durable too.

As others have noted, the heat tolerance is entirely about the handle on the lid. If it's an issue and you need that high of heat, I think the SS handles are ~$20.

For those worried about the knobs - I bought stainless knobs to replace mine but didn't get around to doing for all of them. I have had them in 400 degree plus ovens and they've held up just fine. I've had many of my Creuset pieces for years, and they're as good as new. At this rate my kids (and eventually grandkids) will be able to use them.

Check the height vs the 7.25 quart one. This is a Dutch pot. Not a Dutch oven.

They really need to change the return policy on all items. Returning stuff after years of use is pathetic.

I ordered this a few weeks ago & only just received. The description should indicate that this is the Deep Round version which sells for a lot more on Williams-Sonoma (assuming you can find it in stock). This is a great price; WS has the smaller 5.25qt for $200.

Pretty happy with this as a good friend has the smaller one & has raved about the higher sides for a couple years now. The regular dutch ovens are fine for most recipes, but she needed one to accommodate some bigger/taller ingredients.

Please go somewhere else with your personal attacks. Facebook forums are better for this type of idiocy.

I didn't say you're pathetic, I said returning a product that's been used for years is pathetic. The fact you think it was a personal attack shows you know it's not right. Have a good day.
