I saw the walmart thread with the 55" TV for $250 but it didn't include this 50" for $218. From reviews it seems decent but quality/longevity is a concern. Personally I'm going to wait for something a bit cheaper or an actual name brand but I thought I'd post just in case it helped someone.

This isn't the JVC you used to know. They lease out the name now. Doesn't make it bad or good in itself, but do not buy solely on the name.

They are made by a Chinese company now. IMO this is no better than the Westinghouse 50 Roku TV that I brought from target from last BF.

And if you don't like JVC, then just what would YOU consider to be an "actual name brand"??? JVC has been a major brand in electronics for about 50 years (from memory, off the top of my head) and is closely related to Panasonic. In fact, while this doesn't matter now...JVC actually invented the VHS format of VCR. JVC and Panasonic were for the longest time owned by the same parent company. JVC might be a lesser known brand for televisions, but they have been in the A/V electronics business a lot longer than some of the more well-known brands! To imply that they are not an "actual name brand" sounds silly....
Except the JVC brand licensing in the US has been owned by a Chinese company since 2018 so this product has no ties to the industry knowledge you're referencing

Shenzhen MTC is apparently vertically integrated, but I can't find anything about their warranty. That said, the extra $25 for the Walmart warranty/replacement plan might not be a bad investment on this—unless it has changed, if the TV fails within the protection period and it can't be fixed (plan covers 100% parts and labor), Walmart will replace it with the same model or equivalent.
Hard to complain too much when it's priced aggressively. Not asking $350 for it.
