SlickdealsForumsDeal TalkNakamichi Blackfriday deal- Shockwafe 9.2.4-Channel 1000W Soundbar System with Dual 10" Wireless Subwoofers and Dolby Atmos - Black $1088
Meh for the price and if you are planning to watch movies only.. may be. I had this and sono set.. sono set sounded a lot better..
I am not a Sonos user myself but have read that the problem with those is a lack of HDMI inputs. That means that you have to plug all devices into the TV and, if your TV does not support all the new audio formats, the audio is sent as PCM to the soundbar losing all Atmos and possibly not being able to play DTS. With the Nakamichi, recommended setup is to plug devices into the soundbar which sends video to the TV via EARC. Amazing audio on movies and games, which I am thinking would be the use case for a greater number of people than using this as a hifi.

if your tv doesn't support the new Audio formats it won't work with this nakamichi either. The only different between sono and this is dts x. Stupid sono doesn't support dts x. But the sound is a lot of crispier on sono than this. This one sound a lot warmer. So if u r just gonna use the sound bar for movies than this is great for this price. But if you, gonna use it for movie + music and if you have no space for the regular speakers then go with Sonos.
Thoughts on waiting or just pulling the trigger on this deal?
I think I bought one last year or the year before during bf for this price.. So if u want it pull the trigger.. I don't think it will go down a lot more.
Soundbars are the latest marketing ploy. They sound terrible. For this price, get a couple of decent floor standing speakers and a receiver and add on all the other stuff at a later time.

May be I am missing something, but your soundbar is doing the processing for sound. The sound bar is directly connected to your streaming players, so not sure if what you said is accurate. The only real 'processing' done by the TV i is the picture, which this soundbar supports (Dolby Vision Pass through).

This is correct. I have the previous gen of this soundbar and it does the audio processing and just send the video to the TV.

So that is correct, the devices need to be plugged into the sound bar and not the TV.
However, the issue is that
1-you won't be able to use the built-in TV apps and will have to rely on 3rd party device i.e. Roku/Shield/AppleTV etc. for unsupported formats still (i.e. DTS). As a side note my LG CX does not process NOR pass through DTS...
2-I didn't think that this soundbar was HDMI 2.1 complaint, so if you were planning on using HDMI 2.1 features that it wouldn't work still?
