I need one. And this is a decent price. But after seeing them at $190 at best buy in November, I am struggling to pull the trigger. I should have bought one then but my storage somewhat unexpectedly filled up over the last couple months.

I'm in the same boat. I won't call it a decent price. What I'll do is deleting files and also switching files from H.264 format to H.265. The H.265 files only use 30% space.

I already made the switch to h.265. I really just need to delete a few things.
and this is decent compared to the usual price. they're pretty overpriced typically

how much worse is the quality of an average file encoded in h.265 instead? 30 percent of the space must be throwing out a lot of details, no? I'd love to see a great side-by-side comparison video .

thank you . this is fascinating. Did some research since posting my question, and was shocked to find out H.264 is 15+ years old... ah the march of progress

If the bit rate is the same, a H.265 file is much better than a H.264 file. In reality, the H.265 files are not using the same high bit rate as the H.264 files to save space. So the quality of the file is actually reduced. For me right now, I still keep some H.264 files. Delete some unnecessary files. Add some H.265 files.
I'm down to 9% free space on my NAS and desperately need some new drives, but I've had so many bad experiences with Seagate. Figures that I'd run out of space right when good HDD deals get much more infrequent.

Back to OP. I'm in the market for one, but will wait for a WD to go on sale.
Easystore has 2 year warranty, this one has a 1 year warranty.
