These have been bouncing around price recently. A pretty good buy on a named brand HVLP kit for anyone with some painting projects ahead this year.

According to CCC, these were $54 about a week ago for a couple days. I missed it then but I grabbed it at $58.

Doesn't this require a larger compressor with a high cfm?

..... would a smaller, "home" pancake compressor be enough?

Price jumped back up. If you missed out keep an eye on it, it might go back down later in the week.

Pancake compressor would probably be okay for the smaller spray gun if you are doing small projects. It would not run the bigger spray in this kit.

They aren't bad for a cheap gun. Just make sure you have a compressor big enough to handle the cfm needed and capacity for your project. Also, make sure you completely disassemble and clean prior to using. Test it with some lacquer thinner or reducer too because sometimes they have bad seals and /or threads.

If you are spraying a small shelf then you can use a pancake but other than that I wouldn't. The small compressor will not keep up and will introduce too much moisture along with pressure drops

Right, that's kinda what I thought I heard when I looked into a spray set a while back.

Thanks for your time and info 👍

Add an inline moisture separator if using a compressor for hvlp.

The Bostitch pancake compressor I'm sure half of us have can do up to 2.6 SCFM at 90 PSI, while this gun only requires 0.7/2.1 SCFM at 40 PSI. It should be able to handle that fine, though I wouldn't paint a fence with it. This seems like a more light-duty kit, so you wouldn't want to, anyway.

You should really be using an inline filter (oil/water separator) with this, so the moisture created by the compressor isn't a big concern.

Looks like it's as low as $53 in zip codes around me in stock and hit as low as $47 in some others that are out of stock. Almost worth the trip, since I need some milk and distilled water, anyway.
