I just got one of these for $250.
Great grill with an innovative design, but be warned they're of kind of crap build quality. The inside of the charcoal hopper will burn out and fall apart, the switches that detect if doors are open will fail, and it will drip grease all over your patio. Lots of them come out of the box with dents and scrapes and various parts of the build are crooked or won't line up right.
But they're honestly still a bargain at $500 if you're willing to futz with it. Great charcoal taste and super easy smoking.
If you're looking for something to last more than 3-5 years, skip it. But if you have fun with bbq and don't mind buying a "project" these things are awesome.

Show me a stand alone controller and fan you can buy for $100, let alone complete smoker.
The Char Griller 980 could be a good competitor at $600. Otherwise I don't know of a cooker that can produce smoked food at this quality for anywhere near the price.
Mine is about a year old and I probably have 100 cooks or well over 1000 hours on it. The shipping plates in the firebox burn away but that is by design and replacement firebrick plates are available though I don't see needing to replace mine anytime soon (actually my shipping plates are still in ok shape). Other gravity smokers have a minimum of 1/4" plate in the firebox, the firebrick is an interesting alternative that helps this grill to retail at $1000 less than it's next competitor (Old Country Gravity+ Controller ). Other gravity smokers on the market start over $2k. Apples to oranges but still important to keep in mind.
Keep the temps lower (under 350F) and this should last for a couple of years minimum of near stick burner quality smoked food at a near pellet smoker ease of operation. I don't own a high end gravity but I don't think they are able to go to higher temps due to fire risks.
