LG is top-rated in the consumer report year after year. No sure where you get your news from.
BTW, I purchased it yesterday and the estimated delivery is in 4 days.

The extra-large capacity feature is very much appreciated whenever we want to wash all the towels at once, bedding, etc. The washing machine weighs the load before it starts and uses as little water as needed, despite the extra-large capacity feature. Virtually all front loading machines these days are "Large Capacity," but this pair is truly larger capacity than those. Although we're a small family, the higher capacity feature is great for us and very worthwhile.
The pair is very easy to use. Most people in my family just put their laundry in, add soap, and press Start. It doesn't have the super-advanced, phone-loadable custom features. But, it's very easy to change the wash and dry settings. For instance, you can set any wash mode you want, and then add extra rinse cycles, change the water temp, and so forth.
The dryer has a Steam feature, but it does not accept a water line. You have to pour water into the dryer's dispenser, like the washer's detergent dispenser. I'm not a fan of these steam modes anyway. However, I can't use the Steam mode because i had these units stacked. The tallest person in our house is 5'8" and none of us can reach up to the dispenser on the dryer. We can reach the dryer controls ok, but because of the higher capacity, these units are probably better in a side-by-side configuration.
ALL front-loading washing machines can develop mold. Even the GE's, which have a special vent feature. This model prevents mold build-up by having a magnetic door catch which keeps the door slightly open, so water can dry out. But once a month, i suggest you wipe out the inside, including the door, with a Clorox wipe. Then, pour in a pouch of Tide washing machine cleaner (available in volume at Costco) and run the machine's cleaning cycle. I haven't had any mold problems but i do keep an eye out for it.
The doors are not glass, they're a very strong plastic. When the installers arrive, make sure they do not remove the plastic film until the machines are completely installed. Better yet, tell them to keep the film on until you're all set, and then remove it yourself. If any moving or adjusting is needed, you'll want the film over the doors to protect them from scratches. However, in day-to-day use, you aren't likely to scratch these doors. The pair look really great in my home and we're completely happy.
