tl;dr: the price has actually not correllated to an increase and in fact shows a slight decrease in the price per brick adjusted for inflation over the last 30+ years. And wouldn't you know it... $150/2164 bricks = ...$0.07 a brick. Actually well under the average cost.
Lego is a very high quality toy. they are extremely durable, and the tolerances in manufacture are extremely exacting. Since Lego switched to a reformulated and more stable plastic nearly 50 years ago the pieces you bought then if cared for will fit perfectly with the pieces you buy today. Why do you think stuff like megablox is cheaper? Because it is.
Owning a ton of Lego myself I can instantly tell if I see a megablox or competing piece mixed in because it's usually obvious. The other piece is usually a duller color, not molded (or ejected) properly, and/or the tolerances cause problems with actual Lego pieces (and sometimes even themselves).
Lego went through some tough times in the 00's until licensed sets and entertainment brought them back, but there is an overarching reason why they have endured for like 90 years: because they are quality toys.
So retail price makes FP now?

Perhaps it was a Lego.com exclusive for just the first 90 days.
I also collect various toys
But I also can't help but chuckle at photos that show adults in a "kids toy" advertisement.
Lego has been specifically targeting adults for years now.
Just like the LegoLand ones.
