I never understood what the appeal of this is over snippers, or pliers, or strippers ...can someone chime in?

Its really for data communication lines cat6. I used them everyday they are ok, but when cutting wire it pinches your middle finger if you hand is curled around the grip.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of this design. I prefer the more traditional scissor design that doesn't promote getting your finger in the way. That said, these scissors are great for working with low awg wires. The serration prevents wires from slipping and you can do most low voltage prep work with them.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead; thought nobody responded. I dont work w lv wires everyday, but i do occasionally, and usually just resort to using what i mentioned above, and/or a utility knife;

Is this purely for speed?

Electrician scissors can perform more delicate work than snippers with less chance of messing up and having to re-do something, like accidentally cutting too far when stripping double sheathing, or stripping super-fine wire. The serration makes for much less slippage when working. At the end of the day, it's just a utility tool that can do the work of other tools and perform a bit more delicately than other options. Wire strippers and/or rotary strippers can do the jobs better, but it's nice to not have to tote 2-3 tools up and down a ladder and shuffle around.
