Are you following instructions in OP? If you don't click through from Slickdeals then the coupon doesn't work. The coupon only activates if you're referred by Slickdeals.
Thanks for giving me the idea, even if your tact was a bit lacking. FYI: Deal does not work from the slickdeals application, only from slickdeals on the browser.

I'll let someone know about the mobile app issue.
The edit about the app was included *after* my post, and that's what made all the difference. It wasn't included in the OP.
Steps taken, you can probably skip some of these....
1: Click link and see the price of the game as 48 cents.
2: Randomly click around trying to get it lower...
3: Come back to SD and read comments for helpful suggestions...
4: Read post again and this time see the coupon code and instructions to choose lowest price
5: Go back to site choose 24 cents and apply coupon code to get it to free in cart.
6: Attempt to checkout, need to create account.
7:Create account and click on activation link in email
8: Create username in open tab from email and check cart, has the came back at 24 cents, reapply coupon code and checked out.
9: Copy code and successfully activated it on steam.
