Grabbed one thanks. Cheaper than Klein and still made in USA, probably same factory. All their tools look the same

Serious question, Are ones made in the USA of better quality, or is it about supporting the US, both, or something else? I'm starting to buy myself tools so I'm just looking to soak up information. Thanks!

Mechanical items such as tools manufactured in the USA or Germany have always been superior to those copied or outsourced for mass production. When profits are primary, quality suffers. When quality is primary, profits are almost guaranteed. As well, an established local network for long term warranty is imperative for other than throw away tools.

Meanwhile, unless one endorses massive currency debasement as has been increasing to the eventual collapse of all social systems, supporting workers that pay the income taxes in one's own country is prudent. Not even COLA remotely keeps up with actual inflation ----today, on average, it takes about $9 USD to purchase what $1 did 50 years ago.

Generally yes USA, Germany, Czech Rep, and Japan are of highest quality for most tools especially hand tools. There is a noticable quality difference and better performance and longevity. I use my tools pretty hard in a steel mill and always look for quality. From time to time in a pinch I'll gamble on Taiwanese tools. They're not as good but cheaper and almost always better than Chinese. For power tools I'd say Makita will last longest but has limited selection and retailers, DeWalt for construction, Milwaukee for other trades, Ryobi for homeowners. That's a broad generalization though. DeWalt is the most American of them but their performance isn't quite as good on average as Milwaukee. It's great to support good paying jobs too and I do believe we can and should be making more here.

Essential tools for your collection:
Wiha, Ideal, or Klein 11 in 1 screwdriver
Knipex Cobra water pump pliers in a few sizes.

Those 2 for me are absolute game changers. They alone do the work of several tools if that's all you have with you and are very well made. Enjoy your new tools!
