Any idea when the change happened? Saw a major difference on a clearance item between May and June this year. Inventory seemed to hold the same, but after a 70% off clearance markdawn, the prices all jumped back up to full price.

Entirely serviceable depending on your needs. I have one each on RP for myself and my pops. Third one is a dedicated hotspot on AT&T. Compared to other cheap LGs, though, the speaker is lacking. That's my only complaint about the Phoenix 4.
