We run 2 De'Longhi Pinguino supplementally. Can't run a standard window unit due to some goofy sliding windows. Been ENTIRELY satisfied with them, both 6K DOE like this used in ~375 SQFT bedrooms in a older home with essentially zero insulation. Kept the rooms in the mid 70s even during the recent 115 degree heat wave. Much quieter than similar LG units we looked into. Had exactly zero issues with regular use over the last few years.
One unit delivered without a remote, called the 1-800 number on their site and got to a human almost instantly and they shipped one out with Express shipping the next day, super satisfied overall.
You're right, they're all the same with an exhaust pipe. What we did too minimize the heat on the room was to raise the entire unit of the ground and put it as close to the window was possible to shorten the amount of hot pipe in the room. We also wrapped the pipe with aluminum foil.
Ghetto fabulous? Yes! But did it work? Yes!
There is a use for everything. I appreciate the ease of installation, in minutes and not having to lift a 100 lb window unit. We use this model early in the season and also feel safer securitywise because I can leave it in and run screws entirely through the two window so a thief can not raise the window and climb in.
To restate, a bit loud, a bit less effective but easier and safer than through window units.
