Instead, I just booked 2 SAN-OGG roundtrips on Alaska in early December for $615.03 all in - confirmed premium economy outbound (free drinks), first class return, good chance at a first class upgrade for the outbound. Full disclosure: required the use of AS credit card companion pass, 2 Gold Guest Upgrades. Also includes 4 free checked bags.
$200 is a SMALL price to pay to start (and end) a Hawaii leisure trip more relaxed, on a positive note.
Well yeah when you have those perks of course it's a better deal. Now how much would that have been without your companion pass and free upgrades?
For those of us without access to 1st class upgrades on Alaska or one of the 3 majors, Southwest is equal to or better than coach on the 737/A320's that comprise most California-Hawaii flights these days.
