Agree with that. I believe it is over 100GB.

Why not just buy a 4TB USB 3.0 (mechanical) drive for the alot less and then just leave150GB free on the internal drive and swap out Series X (and upgraded XBox One) games as needed? (non-upgraded XBox one and compatible 360 games can be played off the USB drive directly)

It can take that long to swap out games (via USB 3.0)…. plus if you filled the 1TB intenal already, another 1TB is not going to last you very long.

Speed and immediacy is great and all, but the games take at least 30 mins to download (at least) so another 5 or 10 is not a huge deal.

JMHO.

It is actually just a hair under. Apparently you can delete the offline content and it shrinks to less than 50GB. From what I hear, the offline maps aren't nearly as detailed as the online one so you might as well.

The Xbox Series X/S models allow for legacy games to be played off a different drive but if it's a Series X/S game or been optimized for them, you can't use anything but this one.

Under normal circumstances you would totally be right. However, this generation consoles require an nvme drive to play the newest games. Those drives are only found as the internal storage or as this external storage specifically. Not only it allows you to play the next generation games, but also take advantage of a new feature for Xbox series x and Xbox series s consoles you can have multiple games open the last ones and not have to reload them every single time that you changing between them. That feature is called quick resume and basically you can be playing Forza 7 and quickly change to a multiplayer match in call of duty without having to go through any loading screens and you can come back to Forza 7 again without having to go through any loading screens allowing you to pick up right where you left off. You can still play Xbox One games and Xbox 360 games and original Xbox games on an external drive like you could with the previous generation but as I said before Newer games made for Xbox series x and s have to be installed either in the internal memory or in this specific external drive.

Has there been discussion of additional vendors making these? A $100 500gb model would be kind of a no brainer right?

Quick resume is totally awesome. Loading time is officially a thing of the past.

I want to pick up one of these, but for the time being, a 4Tb Passport Ultra is doing the trick for playing X1X games and storing unused XSX games. By the time this isn't viable, I'm hoping there are bigger expansion drives or more competition to drive down the price.

When released they stated third party other than seagate would make other options and sizes. I just bought in on this deal because this much time later without another option coming up and more and more series X games coming out I need the space.

Is there any difference whatsoever between this storage slot and the native series x storage? Does it work equally as well? I keep looking but it's rich for my blood….. flight sim is making me reconsider though
