For anyone interested at 27inch you should get at least 1440p. You will notice how smooth everything is.
Picked one of these up yesterday because I needed a cheap monitor just to extend my work laptop and give me more real estate to work with.
I was previously using my personal MacBook Air with an old (2011) 27" iMac as the second monitor to extend my MacBook screen. That iMac is 1440p and will admit it that it does look better, I just couldn't figure out a way to use that iMac as a second screen when using a Dell laptop. I tried adapters but from what I read the Target Display feature on that iMac only works with another iMac or a MacBook (not PCs). I would still use my MacBook but it's just more of an annoyance to use Citrix (vs just logging in with the Work Dell), has a slower processor for certain work related uses, and it's killing my batterie's life on my personal computer so I think I'll have to make due with the not so smooth screen I guess.
I tried looking into 1440p 27" monitors but they all seem to be at least $100 more than this LG from Costco. For my uses (reading emails, spreadsheets, some Zoom, etc.) I don't think the extra money it's worth it for me personally. I guess I'll test it out for the next month or so and decide if it's that bad, return it, and spend the extra money on a 1440 p monitor.
Anyone have any insight on getting a 2011 iMac to work as a second screen for a PC?
Also, any sub $200 1440p monitors out there? I did a quick search on SD and didn't really see any recently.
it depends on the use case. Not everyone is a crazy gamer willing to kill just to drop 3ms latency.
For email / coding / youtube that's a great deal for its cost

Don't care for the 75Hz. But even for everything else if you are going 27inch, just get 1440p. You will thank me later.
Work at dept of the army and they are so cheap that we use a low end dell 24" monitor to work spreadsheets, email, financial documents. Use a 40" 4k tv and a 34" ultrawide for monitors at home and its jarring using the 23. something screen at work resizing and moving windows around on the tiny desktop to pull data and tabulate between open apps. The supervisors all have 2 or 3 screens but won't try to get everyone else anything so we are less efficient everyday but that's the government way. Going to buy this to use at work but they'll probably make me take it away because it will open the other employees eyes and they'll get frustrated. Anyways this is a good price for adding some screen work space where desperately needed. Also a good option for a young child doing distance learning, tutoring through zoom, or playing roblox or the like.

I think even for a work monitor you want at least 1440p at this size. Especially if you're using spreadsheets. One main reason getting a bigger monitor is for more real-estate. This monitor isn't giving you that. It's just making things bigger like a Jitter Bug phone. No added cells in Excel, no extra images on screen, just a bigger image.

Apple eliminated target display mode after High Sierra and only works with 2019 or older macbooks. I dual boot Catalina and High Sierra on my 2013 imac just to be able to use my imac as an extended monitor with a 2019 mbp.
Have never been impressed with resolution on imacs prior to retina screens but they get the job done.

Thanks for the info. I can use Target Display with my Mac/MacBook just fine, the Mid 2011 iMac has High Sierra and my MacBook Air is from 2015, it's using it with a Windows laptop that I was trying to figure out if there was a workaround/hack. Apparently there is not (with my model iMac) after trying to figure it out with some Googling so I just broke down and purchased another monitor.
Thanks for the link. Don't know how I missed this, and it's from Costco. It seems to have a lot of 1 star reviews, most about quality issues. I was trying to not have to spend so much money for work related items but I might grab one of these to try it out to compare to the LG model and see if it's worth the extra money. Acer also has speakers at least, that's a plus, maybe.
Hopefully they have this Acer in the warehouse to minimize the chance of it arriving broken if shipped. It's also a little bigger than what I was looking for because of desk space at home but I might have to make it work if it's worth the money over the LG.
**EDIT** Looking at reviews on other sites also just noticed that the Acer is height adjustable. Actually, it doesn't. That was another Acer ET322Qu that did.
