I have a bigger iPad from 2017 but I'd rather have the tech on this iPad mini
absolute BS by Apple jacking the entry price by 25%
It's well known you can get it from Apple EDU for $449 so this isn't really a discount

The previous generation is completely different
Can you get the edu discount without being a student?
They don't require proof.
What's the price? $459
What's the difference? $40 which is greater than 0
So this is a discount.
You can order a device from edu store regardless of whether you are actually a student just because Apple does not verify your identity. This does not mean you are supposed to use it that way or it's ok to brag about it. Let me copy and paste this line from hed store home page:
> Available to current and newly accepted college students and their parents, as well as faculty, staff, and homeschool teachers of all grade levels.
And terms and conditions under "Eligibility":
https://www.apple.com/us-hed/shop...licies/edu
Technically it's a violation of ToS.
