I was thinking about upgrading our tv and snagging one of the A80j OLEDs on sale now. The price is at the very top of my budget. I am upgrading from a series 4 tcl Roku tv which has been great for us for years now. Is this Hisense a big enough upgrade that will be easily noticeable? If I can get the wow effect by upgrading to this I might not need to spend double and get an amazing OLED…

This is a great tv. Nothing at the $1K price point is on par with this set, IMO. Unless you just don't care about spending the extra $$$, the jump to OLED isn't worth it to me.

The 646 is gonna be close as the rtings review looks promising but it's more expensive at 1200. Both experience from poor QA however, as I have received bad panels from both. The U8G doesn't follow the ETOF and over brightens certain scenes in HDR. It is a good TV but it also had about 8-9 dead pixels which prompted my return.
Seems Best Buy has exclusivity on the R646. Rumor is that they will lose that in November. Maybe there will be a price drop then. If I could get the U8G or R646 at the same price, I'd lean a little to the R646.

It's gonna be a huge step up especially in HDR content. The U8G also gets way more bright.

This is a great deal on a very good TV on a brand with very questionable reliability.
The Sony OLED is going to be superior in every area except brightness, which you will never use. But it's there if you want bragging rights on who has the brightest TV. As if anyone GAF.
The bright highlights on HDR are going to be brighter on this TV, but the overall PQ is going to be far superior on the OLED not to mention the picture processing will be SIGNIFICANTLY better. Hisense does a poor job on non 4K sources. Sony is considered the best at upscaling. Regular cable and regular HD will look like 4K.
$800 for the 55" is tempting but Buy Dig isn't eligible for the 100 Day Guarantee (let alone if it's sold through Ebay). I think I'm going to hold out some more, as it appears prices are moving in the right direction on the U7G and U8G. FYI I think Amazon is at $860 on the 55" U8G but with the Prime CC you get 5% so it's closer to the BuyDig/Ebay price and has the 100 Day Guarantee.
