I haven't seen anything about fiberglass for these scimitar rods, can you provide a link?
Also, what's wrong with the guides? Al-ox guides have been pretty standard for a long time, and in fact, are preferred to single-piece metal guides or metal inserts.
As to the rods, I have a really old (12 years?) Shimano scimitar spinning rod, 6' medium 2pc. It was my first rod that didn't come from a combo, and it's still kicking to this day. Love that thing, though it has been my beater/loaner rod and I don't use it nearly as much as I've upgraded quite a bit in the last few years.
The new scimitar rods have been announced, available now or soon, depending on location and vendor. They use ti-ox guides, which normally means "better", and have a redesigned foregrip. They come in at $39, and in my opinion, would be a no-brainer when comparing to this old scimitar at $26, let alone $32.
nvm. I'll wait for fiberglass deal. though i could use it for squid jigging.
