Firman 7500W Running / 9400W Peak Tri Fuel Generator T07571
Good as backup generator for home especially if you have access to natural gas
Keep in mind that this is conventional generator, NOT inverter generator! Not for electronics for long run. Haven't seen any tri-fuel inverter generator in the market yet.
$799 online and $699 in store
(10/11-10/15).
Price increased by $100 from last year's
$200 off sale.
Still best bang you can get for a tri-fuel generator if your store has it in stock now.

The parts needed: breaker $25, breaker interlock $50, inlet box $50, 40 ft NG hose $75, 4 prong 30 amp 75 ft power cord (to reach the back yard) $150.
Before labor, it will cost roughly $350-$400 in parts to hook this generator up to you main panel.
I personally don't think this is super concerning - just something to keep in mind.

I know it's been lower by 100 /150 in the past but I have never been able to get it lower than this

I picked one up today. Great reviews, quietest of the class, enough power on NG for my needs and I can use LPG or gasoline if I need more power. I'm satisfied. Oh 3 year warranty too!

Ok.. I think I have always seen it at this same price in NJ store.

A transfer switch can be used regardless of fuel type. A transfer switch allows you to plug your generator directly into your home without running extension cords everywhere. Playing around in the breaker box is always a risky endeavor and you should call a certified electrician to do it. Cost depends on how big your house is and how big of a transfer switch you get and if it is automatic or not. Lots of factors come into this.
The question regarding NG is separate issue and has no bearing on the transfer switch. You need to ensure that whatever size NG line you have can support the fuel requirements of the generator.
Do i recommend a transfer switch? Yes, if you can afford it as it makes turning your home on super easy. Do i recommend you install it alone with no history of who you are or what you do? NO
