I could be wrong but I don't believe any of the 1.5ah or 2ah batteries have the indicator on them.
I think you're right. These are better for weight-saving for smaller and less power hungry tools. For average home use they're better for drills/drivers.

Yeah that's what I use these smaller ones for too. And the small led light. Maybe the multitool in hard to reach places
As far as I know, aside of P189 (1.5AH) and P190 (2Ah) all other batteries comes with indicator both HP and non-HP one.
Toolboy has a list of Ryobi batteries and their features (search for "gauge"). http://toolboyworld.com/eBay/Ryobi_Batteries.htm
You are basically right about the current batteries, but a number of the older batteries have no fuel gauge. He does not specify fuel gauge on a number of the P19x batteries which do have one though.

HP batteries on market for what, 10 years or even more?
Since then aside of few I mentioned before, newer saw one without it.
I mean yes, old orange one and such, but when was a last time you saw them on shelves?
Very useful thing, btw. I own only HP batteries and love it.

After the orange ones they still have p102 and P105
The current 1.5 and 2.0 with gauge are PBP002/003/006. I didn't see them on sale a lot.
They cost as much as a regular 4.0Ah battery, which doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Ahh, thanks for sharing. I always thought that all 2.o ah or less had no gauges
