This is the cheapest self-cleaning robot Vac i have seen.
The Shark® EZ Robot is your easy path to a smart clean. After each cleaning session, your robot automatically empties itself into the bagless self-empty base, which holds multiple sessions' worth of dirt and debris so you can forget about vacuuming for weeks. Now that's easy.
FORGET ABOUT VACUUMING: The bagless, self-emptying base holds weeks of dirt and debris.
SHARK SUCTION: Powerful suction to tackle large and small debris, and pet hair.
COMPLETE COVERAGE: Methodically cleans row by row, room to room.
RECHARGE & RESUME: It returns to the base, recharges, and can pick up where it left off.
APP/VOICE CONTROL: Easily start cleaning with Google Assistant or one tap in the app.
MULTI-SURFACE CLEANING: Handles dirt and debris on carpets and hard floors.

The room mapping is nice, but it took me around 10-15 goes for it to map out a floor which you are stuck with after mapping. You can not use the Shark on another floor without ruining your original mapping. Also, there is no spot cleaning option so it's not effective if you want to clean a small mess real quick.
It's also not that smart. It constantly runs out of batteries before docking, sometimes it won't be able to find the dock that it's literally next to, it doesn't seem to use the map to find the dock, doesn't show itself on the map in the app if you need to recover it, frequently has bumper stuck issues where it'll simply be pressed on the wall or a chair leg and too lazy to reverse out of the situation, it does not receive firmware updates automatically (or manually) and I have read that you have to cal support for them to push updates to this model, and there are a host of other issues as well.
Shark itself doesn't seem to market this version anymore on their website, so it's probably being phases out or this is excess inventory being sold off. Don't expect support for it going forward.
The only plus that I can think of is that, if you can get it to work right, the self empty feature is pretty handy.
I was about to say the same thing
This is also my first robot vacuum I have owned so I don't know if this is common for every other robot vacuum. I think I will return this one and try a Roomba one.

I have had the the black release version of this for 2 years now and have 0 problems that you experienced. Yours must be defective. If you bought this on launch it would have lifetime warranty

Plus, mine had laser navigation. As do all the roborock's, except for budget models.
I paid $260 for a gift for folks, and $277 for my own (I didn't want to wait for a sale, after hearing how great it was from them). Back then, they started out at like $250. But, that model was never meant for the intl market, and was meant only for mainland china.
The newer models are more costly (the equivalent type models, not the budget non-laser versions), but they're still an awesome bang for the buck. Also, avoid the units that also "mop." Since those types of robovac "mops" are literally like dragging a wet rag, attached to a string across the room. They do nothing to "mop", but simply leave water marks across the floor.
Current Roborock models are still a lot cheaper than iRoomba. And they're essentially all more powerful than essentially all iRoomba models (the top roomba model(s) are about equivalent on the Pa's of suction. But, the roborock ones are significantly cheaper too)
My only (minor) gripe is that the color is more of an off-white/cream color. Against white baseboards and cabinets it looks off.
Its a self empty storage
