Staples has
HP 17-cn0273st [staples.com] at $399.99. Identical specs to the previous deal here (Staples 17-cn0173st) for $450, now $50 less.

Full HD 1920 x 1080 (IPS, according to HP website specification, not 100% sure)

Almost surprised that after a couple thousand views the post dismissive of this "mere i3" hasn't appeared. This isn't a steal like the$340-ish (or less) variants of this spec list that have appeared as of late. But it's definitely a fine buy for 17" screen shoppers.

This meets your requirement. Don't know the upgrade part.
Only one external display can be connected via HDMI which support 4k 30hz or 1080 120hz. The USB-C seems to be data only with no display port capability.
More external displays are possible via USB but those won't be plug and play. Hence it's not recommended. If multiple external displays is a must, you have to look for laptops with USB-C with DP (1.4)-alt mode. The price for 17" usually starts from $600 deal price.
