70db is not the standard for "quiet compressor" these days

You might be right, but look closely, the lowes website specs say it's 60 decibels. The 70 was 70 or below to be considered "quiet" it was a category, not how much noise the compressor made. At least this is my understanding of it, look at it and decide for yourself.

Yea, this is rated at 60db that according to this chart [noisehelp.com], is about the same as normal speech. A toilet flushing is about 75db. I would say this compressor is very quiet.

Personally, I don't care much for oil-free compressors, but the average homeowner should get years of service.

Is this any better than the 6 gallon craftsman pancake compressor?

I would get something bigger if you have the space, because these small ones don't work with many air tools.

Small little portable compressors like this aren't intended to be used for much other than airing tires and running small nailers. For things like trim nailing, this quiet little thing is much preferable over a larger and louder compressor.

If you combine both you can have a pigs-in-a-blanket compressor.
