Originally $129.99, the Shimano Caius Baitcasting Combo is now only $49.98.
This is for the 7'0" rod length, Medium Heavy, 1 piece.
The reel comes in either Left-Hand or Right-Hand retrieve options.
All orders over $49 are given free shipping, but with this being an oversized rod they give you a $15 discount on shipping instead (no coupon necessary).

Buy a spinning reel not a baitcaster if new, much easier to use. Get some #4 hooks and wacky rig some 5" yum dingers for bass. Toss on a bobber and some worms (same hook will work) for panfish. All this is under $10 at Walmart
I prob don't recommend a bait caster reel for beginners. It can be very hard to learn and create a lot of frustration if you birdnest your reel. If you have a friend that is familiar with it and can teach you, then hope you have fun.
Nice, left handed version is a rare find and usually cost more. Casting with right and crank with left feels more natural to me.

Great find. Shipping is still $10 for me. Even after the $15 discount. $60 shipped.

Anyone find a way to get around the oversized item shipping charge ($10, discounted from $25)?

Note: The rod is Medium Heavy while the reel is "designed with lightweight lure casting in mind." Using a MH rod for finnesse lures can be difficult and it's recommended to use a rod power more appropriate.

I use a spinning rod for river trout. Should I consider this one for the same?

From my experience (10 years bass fishing), using a bait caster in confined areas, or for short casts, is difficult compared to a spinning rod. If your river is wide open and you're doing full casts this will be great.
