Many people who charge their EVs on a 14/16awg extension cables get fires, and that's only 120amp 12V, 960w. I used a 10awg extension cable for 240v 13.75amp (3.3kwh) charging for years without issues and no heat buildup.
Extensions cords are something you should never cheap out on.

Yeah, I calculated the default amp (8) many EVs default to on an OEM 120v. Your calculation is correct. The Leaf/Fusion/Volt forums and groups are littered with people burning up their receptacles and cables by using 14/16awg extension cords. The only thing saving those homes is the chargers are just glorified GFCI adapters.
