Note that if you need the signal to travel vertically at all (like a landing halfway up/down a flight of stairs), the orientation of the unit matters. Teardown at around 1:20 here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBEtwXKlMZA) shows which way the antennae are mounted - make sure the side (longer axis) is pointed toward the stairs, rather than the front or back. And it can be basically a dead zone if you're directly above or below it on another floor.

I had the older version of this (CT8, 802.11ac spec) and got better vertical coverage from other Asus routers with their hinged antenna design.
Had just recently tried both the XT8 and ET8 and had the RBK53. Not quite the same as the newer RBK753 but maybe my experiences will be useful.

TL;DR, only get the ET8 if you plan on doing wired backhaul and have some WIFI 6E devices. XT8 is much better than the original RBK53, not sure how it compares to the newer RBK753 and RBK853. The app for the ZenWifi is amazing while the Orbi is pretty junk. Free internet protection built into the ZenWifi while the Orbi is a subscription (I also had to disable the Orbi one when I had the free trial as it would mess with my conference calls).

ET8 has the fastest ping at 9 ms and seem great, except you will keep getting dropped packets randomly. The range is also shorter than the XT8 if you're using wireless backhaul. The ET8 could get full speed sometimes but other times would only get 1/3 of the speed compared to the XT8 placed in the same location.

Both the ET8 and XT8 seem to have longer range than the RBK53. I had to use an extender for some peripheral devices that were further away with the RBK53. The ZenWifi app is at least 50x better than the Orbi. Only thing I ever did on the Orbi app was to reboot. Everything else was done via the web browser. The app for ZenWifi allows you to do everything and it is very intuitive. I also turned on the free internet protection and didn't have any issues. Couldn't use the Orbi one that cost money on a subscription because it would mess with my conference calls. There have been a few other issues that I had with Netgear products and starting to shift away to other brands. Glad I gave the ZenWifi a try.
Not the wifi 6e version if anyone was wondering, that's the et8

Good deal. But I wish MC can do a price match with Newegg, I don't trust Newegg too much with return/warranty policy :'(

These are great but save money for non-Wi-Fi 6 ASUS node to add to your mesh to support IoT devices that aren't compatible or have terrible connectivity.

For me:
AC (unit doesn't support nest or ecobee)
Ryobi garage door
Pool pump/heater
Select comfort bed
Servants activity collars
Smart sextoy

Bought 2 weeks as an upgrade from Google Wifi. Already back in the box and being returned. No real speed increase unless you have a gigabit or higher internet connection, or hundreds of devices. And had a number of problems where the mesh node would start dropping packets, or disconnect entirely until it was reset.

I have this in white... Wish I would've gotten the black. Upgraded from a Nighthawk X8 running DDWRT... I would highly recommend this. I haven't had any issues with my mesh system with wireless backhaul. I'm getting about 400 mbps connection all throughout my house.

Are these not backwards compatible w/ wireless B/G?

I would like to know as well.
I have picked RBK753 from Costco deal. They are pretty good. Only that they don't have some settings that I would like to have. Fox example, option to not broadcast SSID, option to make sure the Guest wifi does not connect to your internal network nodes etc.
