Atari VCS bundle is down to $249.99 at Micro Center. I've always wanted this but at $400 it was kind of absurd. $250 seems acceptable, though everyone seems to have mixed feelings on this thing. I reserved one anyway.

as an emulator fan and retro gamer, i've never understood the interest in this pricepoint. if you want the real thing its not hard to find a vintage working atari 2600 with a bundle of games & controllers for $75-150.

if you instead want the tinkering aspect of a retro console turned into a modern device, for under $250 you can build almost any type of arcade/3d printed console shell running a pi4.

want a cheaper option? there are low end consoles reproductions called "Atari Flashback"
Shield
That's the best deal I have seen on this.

OP is right. 400 is crazy for it imo.

It is. But it's a great PC console. Cheapest PC that, at the least, could run productive softwares like office. It's along the lines of steam machines. At the right price definitely worth it. Steam machines failed in not coming up with 1 console. VCS suffers same fate with multiple options.

They should have just created 1 product line.

As an originally disappointed backer of this, I will say they have dramatically improved the software since launch. At $250 for the bundle, I may even pick up a second.

While the APU should run Windows 11, I do wonder if it's officially supported(?).

Good luck!
