Doing a hardwood install soon to replace carpet. Will this be ok in case I need to trim some planks lengthwise?

Wouldn't a miter saw be better for that ? You're mainly making short straight cuts with floor planks

Well not this would be for cutting lengthwise. Say I need to trim a floor plank from 5 inches wide to 3 inches wide. So ripping, not cross-cutting.

You'll be fine. Just make sure that when you lock the fence down it is parallel to the blade so the workpiece doesn't get trapped and kick back at you. And don't feed it faster than this little motor and cheap blade can handle.

It is not the weakest. 13amp, but it is not all that strong if you have hardwood binding up while you cut.
My partner has this saw. My gripe is the handles and adjustments all busted off from use within months. The plastic parts to move the saw motor and adjust the saw are not good.
