I have 2 Alen purifiers and there is no odor to the filter. It says it comes with a filter. If you register your unit when you get it and sign up for auto filter refills every 9- 12 months, then the unit - inc refurb units- have a lifetime warranty

How do these compare to the Costco winix ones? Is the sqft rating of this one inflated relative to the aham certified sqft of the winix? I'm not sure if that cert means anything or carries any weight.

Looks like these are much more expensive. I have 2 of the Costco ones and they are awesome. The pre-filter actually catches most of the dust and can be easily vacuumed/washed extending the life of the Hepa. The charcoal filter (which is next)replacement is optional, if you don't care about odors filtration.
Will be buying 2 more next time they go on sale. I don't see my self buying a hepa filter in at least 3 years. Extremely goos value IMHO.
