I recommend this to anyone that wants to sharpen their own knives, cleavers, axes and scissors but doesn't want to spend an hour to sharpen each one on stones. I got this Ken Onion version a number of years ago and sharpened a couple hundred knives with it before starting my own sharpening business. I bought around 2 dozen cheap, used knives of all shapes and sizes and learned how to get good. Started charging people for my service, made enough to get a larger 1x30 setup and have sharpened a few thousand knives since.

Words of advice…

- Put masking tape or painters tape on the guides to prevent scratching the blades, and change it once it gets dark from dust.

- It only sharpens standard scissors so don't attempt to sharpen other styles because it'll ruin the blade.

- you can get aftermarket belts for cheap and in various grits. Look on Amazon, Tru-Grit, Phoenix Abrasives, etc. Norton is a good brand but there are others. The OEM belts are good too especially if you find them on sale.

- The Ken Onion model (this one) is a different sized belt than the standard one. They're a bit wider. The regular belts will work, but I don't think the KO belts work on the standard model.
I don't think we'll ever see the $80 deal that happened years ago and this thing is supposed to be awesome. So this is a good enough deal for me.

I did some research on this and the original one. A video on YouTube sold me on the older version due to the side of platform and not having to hold the knife myself as perfect.

Can anyone comment on the added value of the Blade Grinder Attachment in addition to the tool?

I've been watching this for ages, since missing the $79 deal. Also note you currently get $10% back on this if you are using the amazon credit card - "Get 10% back on amount charged to an Amazon Prime credit card"

Thanks OP.

I've heard good things about this system. FYI this system provides more of a convex grind on your edges.

Bought this a few weeks ago after the project farm video. Since Amazon always refuses price adjustments I just ordered again and will return it as the first order. Thanks.
