But I see what you're saying - you'd think they would have saved some of the papaerwhite signature features for the flagship product, so that may be it.

FWIW, based on videos I've seen on YouTube, it looks like the Paperwhite Signature edition might be the new flagship device moving forward. That device has a couple perks over the regular Paperwhite but doesn't seem to be on sale (yet). Videos show it operating faster than Oasis and also utilizing a page turn effect that the Oasis is apparently incapable of. This has led to some speculation that the current Oasis may be nearing the end of receiving support from Amazon. Considering the heavy upgrades to the Paperwhite and Paperwhite Signature there would be little to distinguish an Oasis moving forward aside from its ergonomic build and buttons (and aluminum back if that kind of thing does anything for you).

Those three things you listed (more ergonomic, physical buttons, and an aluminum build) sound like features worth a premium to many.

you could check out kobo
there is a trapezoidal port in the picture for me
I'm using the Amazon app on my iPhone. As of now, it's still showing a usb-c port in the picture below "Customize your screen" and above "Read anywhere." The image shows water splashing off the Oasis. I had been anticipating trading in my 10th Gen Oasis toward a new Oasis this Thanksgiving (the only time the Oasis ever drops in price) or possibly trying to snag that Paperwhite Signature (but that hasn't received a discount yet). I'm thinking maybe there's a possibility of a new Oasis for next Thanksgiving after seeing that usb-c Oasis image. Guess I can wait.

BTW the bundle package is on sale also which is a decent savings if you want the nice leather cover and power adapter. This is $85 cheaper than when we ordered it last week:

it's $40 more but the cover alone usually sells for $50 and they are very nice.

It has held up very well and is still attractive. It's currently reduced for BF at $19.99.
Just out of curiosity, what is the benefit (other than carrying/storing one less cord) of a usb-c cable on a device like this? I know they can transfer data faster but, generally, people are purchasing/borrowing kindle books via wifi on these devices and kindle books are so small that transferring via micro-usb is speedy anyway. Does it charge faster? I think after two years of regular use mine charges from near-dead to full in just over an hour. I get that the micro-usb port looks antiquated and may be suggestive of a lower quality product, but once you do the mental adjustment of thinking it through, it really isn't a deal breaker if you care about all the other features.
That said, if you *do* want a usb-c on an Oasis, see my speculation above based on that photo on the Oasis page showing a usb-c port on the Oasis (which is terrible false advertising, Amazon!!). Perhaps next Thanksgiving you can score a new and improved Oasis at a discount…
