Does it easily stream your home audio to the app remotely? Or is that something you will need to open a port to accomplish? NM, I see on their forum they really only want this remote working on local network. Im not going to open a vpn to my home for that.

No, it doesn't do remote access which is one reason why I have never subscribed. A lot of people who have this will just use Plex for remote access You could remote desktop in to your computer to access it but that's too much of a hassle for me. I think they'd get a lot more customers if they had remote access via app.
