Black Friday deal. List price is $229.

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwa.../303101201

This is the base kit in a a combo deal so you can add various tools and accessories for higher prices. Not sure if it's "hackable" but if someone knows please mention in the comments. I'm looking to get their M12 impact wrench so it would be nice if I could get it for less than the $349 that combo goes for.

Well for people who can wait half a year or longer to save a crapload of money, sure, it's not a deal. For people who need this now or very soon, it's s deal, compared to the regular price. The definition of a deal is if it's a better value than it usually the case, not if it's the best value ever.

$178 is basically the regular price at this point though. They aren't going to sell many at $229 so they will do $229 with a free tool or drop the price to $179 or lower for kit only. Hubertpun was referring to when they did both at the same time: a store had the kit for $179 but you could also get a free ratchet as well. For the entirety of last quarter you could get the kit for $179-$229 with a free tool, or you could return the free tool and get the kit for $98-$138.

You are going to get a mix of reactions because this is slick deals. Those looking for truly slick deals will hate on your post. Those looking for a little bit of savings will be thankful you posted.

And that's the thing. Like anyone I'd like to get the absolute best deal on something I want to get, but like most people I would gladly settle for a lesser deal so long as it's still a deal. I'm not here to brag or show off or compete for who got the best deal ever. That's kind of pathological IMO, like those 20-something idiots who spend $10-$20k to mod a stock car so it can do 800-1000HP on the street that they will NEVER get to use without serious to near-certain risk of either destroying it in a crash or getting caught by the police and losing their license or car or having their insurance skyrocket (folks who do this to actually race, legit, on a closed track or course, and have the license, qualifications and skills to do it are a whole thing and I don't begrudge them at all). Ultimately, it's about the thing you buy, not how good a deal you got on it.

Anyway, since I don't need this and certainly not right away, and it's more of a like to have than need to have item, I can wait a bit. It's also been out for several years so I assume that they're eventually going to come out with a superior replacement, especially with DeWalt just coming out with a comparable line of products that at least on paper are as good if not better. I'm guessing that when they do come out with it, these will be heavily discounted, and that it'll probably be by next summer, or sooner. I can wait, as I won't be doing much more on my car before spring. Too damn cold here for that.

If I catch this at $98 or thereabouts I'd be nuts to not get it. I set up an alert for anything M12 so hopefully I won't miss it if it happens again.

Well, actually, the deal I'm actually waiting for includes the M12 3/8" stubby impact wrench. These two are more nice to have than need to have. But having all 3 plus batteries, charger and case would certainly be nice. I.e. the following deal, only a lot cheaper than $350:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwa.../313167101

It's actually this deal, but with the impact wrench as the additional item instead of no additional items. If they offered such a deal for $80 less, which is how much cheaper the deal you're advising me to wait for would be over this, or $270, I'd snag it sight unseen.

Ookay, whatever this means. I wasn't asking for your or anyone's advice as to what I should do, just what historically I can expect to pay for these if I'm willing to wait a bit and maybe try one of these infamous hacks. Sheesh.

And this is precisely what I'm looking for and willing to wait till spring if need be to get, with the 3/8" impact wrench as the "extra gift":

https://slickdeals.net/f/15201028-m12-fuel-12-volt-lithium-ion-brushless-cordless-hammer-drill-and-impact-driver-combo-kit-w-2-batteries-and-extra-gift-229-00?v=1&src=SiteSearch

This is assuming that it was really $229 with the wrench. But even at $279 it would be a deal. It's currently $349, in fact I posted a deal on it recently, and then one on this deal, not realizing that they were part of the same deal, and not as good a deal as one can get if one is willing to wait a while, which I am. I still think that $349 is a decent value considering what you're getting, and if you need these tools right now, it's stupid to wait, but obviously $229 is a far better deal, so I'll wait.

How is this hack stealing? You buy a combo with an extra item and return that item. If they accept the return without your doctoring the receipt or lying to them, how is it stealing or unethical? It's a price-saving loophole, not unlike a pricing error.

Sure, if it was a local mom and pop hardware store and they were nice people, it would be wrong and I'd even bring it to their attention and to hell with local cheapskates who were willing to take them. But this is HD, a multi-billion dollar corporation that can easily absorb the costs and will still be making a small profit on what you end up keeping, and chances are that you'll buy other things while you're their, making this a loss leader even though they're probably losing nothing other than additional profit.

If you can come up with a solid and compelling argument for why I'm wrong, I'm all ears.
