Why would you buy from here instead of Amazon, which is more reputable and offers free return shipping?

...and I'd say this depends on your situation. If you have a TON of carpet and pet hair and your vac can't complete a cycle without filling up, then maybe... but if your goal is to do what they say in the ads and ignore your vacuum for a month or two at a time, and especially if you don't keep a perfectly neat home, then I can't recommend it.

These are mechanical devices with brushes, rollers, wheels, filters... If your goal actually is not to "own a lot of vacuums, then you'll want to check yours regularly for things that may be caught in the roller, impeding flow, stuck to the brushes, wraped around the side brush, etc. A single tissue can wrap around your brush or impede airflow, reducing performance and increasing wear and tear. Not to mention the filter, which I try to give at least a cursory cleaning (a tap on the trash bin) a couple of times a week.

Doing the above is not hard, and takes just a few seconds. Meanwhile a self-emptying vac costs hundreds more, is a big eyesore, makes a ton of noise, and you need to buy more supplies and empty them anyway.

Absolutely agree with that. Auto emptying will work if the house does not collect dust, hair etc.
Otherwise, it's better to get up and clear the brush, bin and overall do a quick check to see that everything works fine after every clean.
