Just out of curiosity is there any advantage in spending twice the amount on these jasco Z wave switches compared to zooz switches?

Probably not. I have multiple zooz products and only one very old ZEN21 switch has ever given me issues losing its connection ever month or two. I finally emailed Zooz support on thanksgiving day and they wrote me back that day. Their support is pretty top notch so that makes me lean towards ZOOZ.

Absolutely not. I HAD to replace every GE Jasco switch and dimmer because they completely failed one by one after two years. Unfortunately I still have some newer Honeywell Jasco that may or may not suffer the same fate, but I'll take them back to Costco if it does - yes, I know they may be considered electronics and out of return.

I have close to 100% failure rate for Jasco ZWave/Zigbee switches after 3-4 years. Symptoms are similar, switch stops responding to presses and goes into strobe mode, on/off. Reddit thread identified the problem to be a capacitor that can be replaced but it is pain of the neck to get to it.

I've used both and find the Zooz seems to be a better product. Zooz responds quicker than GE/Embrighten and Zooz support is very responsive.

The only benefit to Embrighten for me is the light almond color to match my house. I tried painting the Zooz switch, but I just can't find a color to completely match the existing plates and switches in my house (and the wife won't let me change to white) - it just looks a little off.

Ask a chain smoking neighbor to store them in their house for a few weeks. There's a Reddit thread on it.

Was unaware that the Zigbee switches (which are much newer) ever had the click of death like the Z-Wave. I have never had a Jasco Zigbee switch fail that way.

LOL, nice. I'd probably never get the smell out.

Regarding failure on the GE switches. I think I've only had one go out over the 5 years or so I've been using them. I think I have 15 or so in use now.

For what it's worth, I have about 30 Jasco/GE switches that I've had for about 5 years, and I've only had 1 of them go bad (which I was able to get replaced under warranty for free).

I did try out one of the Zooz switches a few years ago, and I didn't like how squishy the button feels. The Jasco/GE have a more clicky/tactile feel to them which I prefer.

They have a 5 year warranty. Have them replace them. Super easy.

And the newer seem to he better overall. I just had a batch of 6 go bad after 3-4 years (I'm attributing to our remodel and extensive electrical work having something to do with it..). Jasco is warranting and included a prepaid label to send old ones back.

A few years ago, I had 2 Jasco switches fail (out of 3 or 4) after about 3 years. I'm definitely out of warranty now but good to know for others that they replace.

I've used HomeSeer switches elsewhere in the house and love them but they're expensive. I have a few Zooz switches to try out but haven't gotten around to installing.

I think it's the older Jasco switches that have the failure issue--several of my older switches failed but the newer units (purchased in the last few years) are going strong.

FWIW, I also prefer the tactile operation/appearance of the Jasco products vs the other although I also have Zooz/etc in my home. Another perk of the Jasco Zwave switches is that they can operate many ceiling fans (simple on-off functionality/not adjust the speed) wheareas for some of the other manufacturers you need to buy special swiches for fans . . . I think has to do something with the power required to startup a ceiling fan from a dead stop being too high for some of the other products...

BTW, I called Jasco and got my defective zwave switches replaced under warranty--it has to be within 5 years--they didn't ask for my receipt--just had me read off the little white sticker on each defective switch to verify the manufacture date. They had me mail the defective switches to them at their expense and then they sent me new replacements (with the newer models). The warranty process is easy to do and definitely worth pursuing if you are within the 5 years . . .
