This was just $29 last month and they call it cyber deal today with $39!!!
That was a wired printer while this one is wireless. There may be other differences as well but that one feature justifies a higher price.

A 5-10+ minute drive one way to wait in line for two minutes for a simple pickup and then driving back doesn't seem like a waste of time and gas to you? Just get a laser printer, the toner doesn't dry out like ink cartridges.

Imagine what happens if you/your SO/kids forgot to print something out or need to make an adjustment and need to print something again. You'd have drive out to the store again. Not worth the hassle, especially so during rush hour.

If you've worked on all nighters, you know the store isn't open and by that point, you just want to rest your eyes for 10 minutes. Driving out to the store would suck when you could have just ran the printer and the background.

My Brother laser printer can't do colors, but it's been running strong for nearly 10 years now and I've replaced the toner twice with a cheaper third party one.

The only aftermarket ink I could find is just as expensive as Canon's ink.

Nice sale!
Cartridges easy to refill using bottled ink and syringe (ebay etc).
Printing works fine for the student, low volume user.

Haha, buy few of those printers just to get ink cartridges, its insane as printer almost costs the same as ink alone

I gave up on owning a printer a very long time ago. Staples has amazing printers and cvs or Walgreens have slick deals all the time. I'm free of paper jams and ink running out or obsolete etc

I look at printing just like having to go to the post office. Yeah it's not what ya want to do. But it's worth it and not that bad of an errand.

I feel the same. Takes up space. Ink will eventually run dry, printer craps out. I use it really just for shipping labels and rarely anything else.

Sort of a semi-related question. I want to get a scanner to digitize a bunch of old photos, but when I search on amazon, scanners cost generally well over $100. It doesn't seem like there are cheap scanner options. And yet you have AIO printers like this which seem to have a competent enough scanner. I know the printers are junk, the ink runs out.. but if I want a cheap scanner to scan a few dozen photos and maybe misc documents.. am I better off just getting a unit like this and ignoring the printer part? Why are there no cheap standalone scanners?

I used to have HP for couple of years and was happy with their instant ink program until it died in August. Do canon also have something like that or do I need to refill cartridges?
