I've used a different, decently reviewed model from Amazon. It works, but for a few blades it ended up putting chips in the blade. They were not the best blades, but I definitely won't use my model on my nice knives. It was $13, obviously it was not the best. I'm sure one you move up in price they get better. I think it would be worth a shot for basic knives where you're not focused on the sharpening angle and just want a sharp blade

I ordered the ken onion deal and will try that for my better blades, but it is pricey.
I bought a plug in chefs one years ago...only the final stage is powered ceramic hone.. disappointed in the outcome and generally take out one of my stones then final on the powered ceramic hone section.
Dress with use on on a furi diamond finger type seems to work better and self adjusts to the knife angle (mostly).
As to the belts and heat and hardness... I am not a knife maker yet, but know several and have been on bladeforums.... There are some very smart and experienced individuals on there, but like many sites there are a contingent that argue irrelevant points down to minutia.
Keep the blade cool, as long as there is no color change in the steel it's fine.
