I have both. These don't have the internal structure that keeps the vibrations going only to the head of the toothbrush. The real ones are better. However, these are great for a compact travel toothbrush.

I considered getting one of these smaller ones for travel because I like to pack light but decided to just use a regular toothbrush - even lighter
It's good for what it is. But, as usual, it comes knowing what you're buying.
I second the vote for non-name brand models. I was a 16-year user of Sonicare handles, and the technology is no longer exclusive to expensive brands.
Been rocking my fairywill toothbrush for 2.5 yrs. Cleans at least as well if not better than Sonicare essance. First-party heads are only $2 each, and the handle lasts well over a month per charge from a USB cord. Recommended it to two friends and they've been all converted. Comes on SD pretty frequently for $12-$20 for a handle with some included heads. Perfect secret Santa gift over the holidays.

Same. Whole family has fairywill brushes. $8 and came with 8 replacement heads, just couldn't beat it. I have gotten about 10 people on them also.
