If you're just gaming, wait for the new CPU's and boards announced today.

Stuff like 12400 has high IPC/enough cache for most things. F version is $167 bulk pricing.

True, but it's $180 actual pricing for the rest of us https://www.newegg.com/intel-core...6819118360 and $210 for the non-F version as list prices at the few retailers that have them listed. Still, I agree that $200 more doesn't make sense just for gaming.

I got the 12700k for $300 when BBuy price matched MC and I'm not even sure I really need it when I mainly just game (still in box, waiting for a motherboard).

How did you get BB to Price Match MC? Do you live near a MC?

I chatted with a best buy rep and sent them a link and they said yes. Nearest MC is about 90 miles away so I'm not sure why they PM'd but others were able to as well.

I mean.... bulk price on 12700k is 409... It will drop low once supply is there. People still have irrational bias for AMD even though Alderlake is the clear choice. Hopefully Zen 4 keeps competition.

I would actually recommend stepping up to 12500 for $10 USD RCP more over base 12400.. Better IGPU and better boost, base clocks. Will be killer for non gaming (full 32EU GPU) + gaming machines IMO..

I plan on building a few office PCs with entry mobos + 12500

I'm personally on 5800x for my "gaming" machine. Waiting to see how meteor lake does Q1-Q2 next year. Meteor and Zen4 have similar density per node.

So should I keep the 12700k or return it and grab a 12500? I am in no rush and I'm willing to spend between $200 and $300.

Cant tell you.

12700K for $299 is solid and will last a long time. The 12700 non K is priced 339 or so in bulk. That's a 65W SKU that has better performance/wattage ratio. https://www.techspot.com/review/2...-i7-12700/ Obviously 12700K is better, but its not like past generations where there's a giant leap for OC ready stuff.

I have a feeling micro center will be selling stuff like 12500 for $150 once raptor lake is out Q3/Q4 2022.. aka end of year.

AMD is going to have to combat by dropping prices of 5XXX CPUS or creating new SKUs like 5600 non X. They're now "overpriced" at current MSRP.

I expect the new 5800X3D to sell under $400 MSRP in spring. Zen 4 end of year.
