I did not play this game when it originally came out and just started playing it about a month ago. I'm probably 2/3 of the way in and I don't understand why it's touted as one of the best RPGs ever made. It's not a bad game by any means, there's just nothing about it that makes me want more. I've contemplated stopping many times, but I feel committed to finishing it at this point.
It's cool that you're essentially playing a studio ghibili game and the score is pretty good. So far the story to me is average, the side quests are tedious, and the combat is underwhelming. It may not be optimal, but for boss fights I just take the main character and run around casting spells until the boss is dead. I've yet to have any trouble doing this.
I bought this game because I thought it would be like tales of vesperia, which I loved. The combat was fun and challenging, great story, interesting characters.
However, at this price I think it's totally worth getting if this is your type of game. I would just temper expectations as there's a ton of hype around this game.
It's one of the best RPGs that is on the Switch and it also has a sequel, the animation and music are topnotch. It has awesome replay value too.

I could not get into this game. I love RPGs, turn-based or otherwise, but this bored the hell out of me, and the combat basically plays itself. I have no idea why people like this one over the second game. The story in this game didn't interest me one bit.
The second game was so much more entertaining. I probably put 30 hours (maybe more) into this before just deciding I'm over it. I should've quit way sooner, but I was really trying my best to like it.
