The active ingredient in this stuff is alcohol. Isn't it cheaper just to buy alcohol?

Yes, .068 cents per ounce vs .082 cents if you got the $42 deal.

Equate 70% alcohol for $2.18 (32oz bottle).

No. Alcohol evaporates very quickly. This has additives that can keep the surface wet for a lot longer. Remember, contact time is very important in disinfection and sanitizing the surfaces. For example, regular 70% ethanol requires a 5 minute dwell time to effectively kill viruses. That means you have to spray it again and again until 5 minutes have passed which is a pain.

I don't know anything about this product but typically there's a specific mixture of liquids that allows for a proper dwell time before drying for it to effectively work.

It seems that's debatable. When I did a quick search, one source said 5 minutes, but all others said 30 seconds.

EPA testing shows that alcohol needs a 5-minute dwell time. Other studies have shown 70% ethanol to be effective against human coronavirus in 1 minute
