Not true. Rolled oats are steamed and pressed, but not precooked (https://www.tastingtable.com/6955...go%20for.) Quick oats are the ones that are precooked.
Try over-night oats. You boil 3/4 of the water the night before, once boiling turn off burner, drop in oats, and cover, the following morning, add the remaining 1/4 of water and reheat. It comes out perfect every time.
They're pretty close quality wise, IMO. My current go to is actually the 'quick cooking' steel cut oats at costco, cheaper than both of these and cut just a little finer. I believe the McCann are closer to the 'quick cooking' version of Bob's (just going from memory so take that with a grain of salt) than the 'regular' Red Mill. So for me it's Bob's Quick-Cooking steel cut> McCann steel cut > Bob's Regular.

I realize this probably makes me sound like a weirdo but I f'ing love oats, man. So many different options... one of my favorites has to be with diced apples, cinnamon, maple syrup and a little bit of walnuts on top.

So much better than normal rolled oats, in my opinion. Just a better texture but makes quite a difference.

I bought this last sale and loved it. Beats the heck out of Quaker old fashioned.
I did not have the issues with shipping damage that others reported
I make 1/2 cup every morning with 1/8 cup Flaxseed and 1/2 a banana
The only down side is the 30min stove top cook time.
I dont want to be bothered with using and cleaning the rice cooker.

Because rolled oats have been cooked once and then dried. That makes the texture pasty and tasteless…steel cut all the way.

Are these actually better than Bob's Red Mill? Even with this sale they're more expensive and I _think_ ATK voted Bob's steel cut over these.

edit/ they are on par in price with 15% s&s actually.

Yeah-I was trying to find a place that sells the 25 lbs of Bob's Red Mill without adding 20-30 bucks for shipping.

I was wondering the same thing. I buy Bob's Red Mill from Big Lots when I get a twenty percent off coupon. The current price comes to $2 for 24 oz.

Is there any way to make these faster than 30 minutes? Like with an Instant Pot or something?

It's $10 for the same amount of oatmeal from Costco, just fyi, so you'd be paying roughly 250% more for better texture. McCann's, like Quaker, likely use glyphosate as a pesticide too so if that's a concern to you, I'd skip it - https://www.taipeitimes.com/News/...2003647215
