Good luck if you use 'unsupported' ram.

Is this not true for any MB that you purchase? Did you state this just for this particular board, or in general, for all?

This particular board. You will have a hell of a time adjusting settings to get it to work if your ram isn't on 'the list.' Google it / look at some threads on Reddit. It's a huge pain, not even playing around with you. For instance I had to troubleshoot my memory timing settings about 20+ times just to get it to boot / be stable. Otherwise it was just completely unusable, until magically (i.e. randomly got the settings right), it worked. Who knows, it could work out for you if you are lucky and have unlisted ram, but this IS indeed a major issue with this board that many people face, and cause lots of returns of it.

To answer your question, no, it is not the case for every MB that they require certain makes/models of memory before the system will boot. This is the first motherboard I have ever used that has had such strict requirements without MUCH tweaking. I have experience working with perhaps 15-20 motherboards, never ran into this issue, so take that for what you will. Yes, I updated the bios.

You can give it a shot, just make sure you are able to return it if you run into the issue and don't have time/patience/experience to troubleshoot it. For the record, I like Gigabyte products and have used their motherboards previously, so this was a very unwelcome surprise and something they should really address, paints them in a very bad light imo. Now I'm done with Gigabyte motherboards unless they do some radical acceptance/addressing of this issue, will stick with Asrock & Asus I guess.

Anyway, to address this deal itself, I think it's a bad price, and someone in the market for this particular motherboard should just get from Amazon Warehouse for $100-120 which has been a frequent price point in recent months. Perhaps so many in the warehouse because of returns due to this issue, I would really not be surprised.

Glad it worked out for you bro. Major pitfall otherwise. Aside from that its a great motherboard, but it is a deal killer / show stopper for some. Typing this on a pc built on this mobo myself, rock solid once the settings are dialed in.

Thanks, I'll keep this in mind. I am focusing on a Gigabyte X570/B550 MB for a 5600X build. Any other MBs that you recommend?

MSI Bazooka are popular.

Arent the Bazooka's m-ATX only? I think you'd have to go Tomahawk to get an MSI ATX motherboard. Those seem to be pretty popular too.

I'm doing a new build now and read too many bad experiences with the Aorus boards for my own comfort level.
