Mitchell is a GC/MF 'house' brand.
MS450 models are made in Vietnam with an US inspection & setup*.
(Several US brands have manufacturing done in Vietnam including Peavey & PRS.)
Fretboard is pau ferro, aka Brazilian ironwood; which is also used by Fender and
Gibson (& others) on some models. Per CITES, all 300 species of the rosewood tree
are currently under trade restrictions. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CITES
*according to Guitar Center's website.

I have a Mitchell, and it's a fine guitar. Plays really well looks great and sound great. I like the pull knob for the coil tap.

I got mine used for $100, and a knob was missing. I called MItchell, and they graciously sent me a replacement knob, and the potentiometer, just in case I needed that, too. That impressed me that a company was willing to put out of few bucks to invest in their reputation of quality and service.

These do look like a really nice value especially with the locking tuners. All of the flame maple veneers I've seen in pictures look good. They are probably super thin but that's to be expected.

Mitchell is GC's 'house brand'; made in Vietnam.
Also it's fretboard is not rosewood, it's pau ferro, aka Brazilian ironwood.
But, Fender has successfully used it for years. Fender-pau vs rosewood [andertons.co.uk]

inho, I'd spend $200 on this before buying a $200 Chinese Squier.
Peace

I've had a Mitchell acoustic for about 10 years and really like it (easily as good as any other sub-$500 guitar I've tried/owned). I can't speak for their electrics but I haven't heard anything especially bad.

This is probably worlds better than the cheapo Strat clones that so many people start out with. Very tempting…I haven't played electric regularly in almost 20 years.

Edit: Just checked in with my brother (25-year metal/rock guitarist and drummer) and got his seal of approval. He just can't get over the fugly headpiece!

Epiphone uses pau ferro on their high end guitars. If PF is acceptable on $800-1000 guitars it's certainly ok on $200 guitars.

I bit - Blue burst is available at the local GC. Don't have anything with split coils yet.

I'm concerned about MIV, but I'd take a chance on this for $200 if I already didn't have far too many guitars. Looks like a winner. Can always return to a GC store if your don't like it for any reason.

I've had a few acoustic guitars over the years. I'm the guy that picks up his guitar once every few months... really seldom but I still like it. I have an audio interface to plug my acoustic (electric) into my computer and sometimes like to play that way. I've never owned a real electric guitar though with proper pickups and such.

I'm interested in thoughts you all have on... As a seldom hobbyist, would this be a good first electric guitar?
