I say this as a life long RPG fan, final fantasy, dragon quest, persona etc - Fractured But Whole is one of the best RPGs I've ever played. Everything about it is awesome. The combat is glorious and the story and puzzles are really good. Really bums me out that this gets passed over as IP shovelware by RPGS fans. It's better than most of the final fantasys. Lot of love went into this one
This game sucks in comparison to Stick of Truth. Not worth it. Developed by Ubisoft, has some outfits locked behind DLC (requires Ubisoft account).
The combat is extremely boring. You would think a tactical combat format would be interesting. However, It's just a matter of how often you can spam a move on as many enemies as possible rather than employ any tactical stratagems. All classes are viable, so just pick whatever looks cool and spam your buttons.
The world is more lifeless in comparison to Stick of Truth, with hidden items and fun side quests no longer being a thing. You now have the "crafting" system (which reminded me of The Witcher and it's clunky, MMO-assed alchemy). For some reason they thought players would enjoy collecting fanart pictures of two little boys in a gay relationship over and over.
The game is blurrier than Stick of Truth. I think it's because this game employs shaders and antialiasing, which Stick of Truth did not. Just crisp sprites and models very similar to the tv show itself. I do not recommend playing Fractured But Whole on handheld mode because the smoothing does not stop being annoying and you cant turn it off.
On a side note, the missed opportunity of importing the save file from Stick of Truth was a huge let down. You have to recreate your character from the previous game or make someone new. The characters will reference the events of Stick of Truth, but most outfits from the previous game are gone.
I really dont know how the devs could have had a solid foundation such as Obsidian's Stick of Truth and mess it up like this but that's what happens when you let corporate develop a game instead of game developers.
