How can one go about testing the drone without activating it? DJI mentions that you can return within 7 days for refund or replacement if not activated. How can you see if everything is working correctly without activating?

you cannot; apparently you don't get to fly it to see if you like how it flies. if everything is not working correctly, you have other options. however, if you simply don't like it anymore i'm sure you have other options as well. the "happy" part seems to apply to the refurbishment appearance and condition.

Do you happen to know if new DJI drones are able to be returned after activating? Otherwise, if I do activate it and there is a problem, am I able to exchange for a refurbished replacement or is my only option to send it in for warranty repair? Thanks in advance.

i don't know for sure because i've never done it but it depends on the retailer....best buy, dji, online, etc. most merchants there is no way for them to know for sure if the drone is activated or not and they don't check when you are within the return period. honestly, i've never heard of new drones undergoing warranty repair when doa. i think you would be safe to return or exchange and if the merchant does not cooperate, your credit card will. nobody should be told to open a new item and find it won't turn on and then trigger the warranty. refurbs might be a different story.
My air 2s refurb from dji has some weird issues. Keeps losing and regaining connect when the drone right next to me. Gonna test again in another area (I live next to a small airport but never had issues with mini 2 or air 2) if it's still acting funny I'm gonna return to eBay and get the Costco deal.

Costco Deal? Can you link it?
edit: looks like just $989 not the fly more bundle...

Did you purchase from DJI's eBay account? Are there going to be any issues returning it? This is my concern, after reading the return policy on their eBay page.

Don't get in a cycle of return->no problem found->ship back to you->drone still flakey->send in for repair....
If DJI has already seen this drone returned as faulty; tested it and then shipped it out as refurb thinking it was OK that's a warning sign you got a faulty drone that passes through their testing. The industry term is an "escape."
I thought my Mini that I purchased over Christmas wasn't working so I setup a return.
They tried to get me to do an RMA. They sent me a link to process the RMA through their webpage.
However, through no action of mine, a few days later eBay auto generated a return slip. I didn't end up completing the return as I got the drone working and I think I'll keep it. But it appeared I was going to get a full refund without any return shipping.
